Court and Field Services

Court Services Division
We escort over 14,000 people to court each year. We keep order and safety in courtrooms, carry out patrols and security checks, and help with weapons screening. We provide security for judges, juries, witnesses, court staff, and all court visitors.

Transportation Unit
This unit brings inmates to hearings and convicted inmates to correctional facilities. We also take mental health patients to court hearings or treatment facilities. Each year, we transport more than 12,000 inmates and mental health patients.
Civil Unit
This unit is responsible for service of writs of execution, eviction, and warrants. For more information on civil process services, click here. For more information on warrants, click here.
Extradition Unit
This unit is responsible for the transportation of individuals with active warrants to and from other jurisdictions. Extradition Unit staff routinely travels to transport individuals arrested in other jurisdictions to Hennepin County, and to transport individuals arrested in Hennepin County who have active warrants in other counties or states.
Gun Permit Unit
Hennepin County residents who are interested in carrying a handgun must apply for a permit to carry with HCSO. For more information on the permit process, click here.
